North American Operations

Severstal Dearborn, Inc.
Previously known as Rouge Steel Company, this facility was for many years part of the Ford Motor Company, which created an integrated manufacturing complex to produce all major vehicle components at one large facility. In 1989, Ford’s steel assets were divested and became known as Rouge Industries with the steel operations trading as Rouge Steel Company in Dearborn, Mich., outside of Detroit.  Today, Severstal Dearborn, a fully integrated plant located close to its consuming markets, remains a critical and valued supplier to the automotive industry while expanding to serve other markets as well.  Recent major capital expenditures include a new, state-of-the-art blast furnace that began operation in 2007. In the near future, Severstal Dearborn will complete the construction of a continuous linked pickle tandem cold mill and a hot-dip galvanizing line. Severstal Columbus, LLC
Previously known as SeverCorr, this electric arc furnace facility is the newest mini mill in the United States and is ideally located in Columbus, Miss., close to the growing markets for steel in the southeastern region of the country. The electric furnace shop opened in 2007 and is supported by a thin slab caster leading to the hot, cold and coated sheet lines.  Severstal Columbus is within easy reach of automotive assembly plants in the southeastern U.S. where millions of cars are manufactured each year. The plant also serves the needs of agriculture, appliance, building and construction, pipe and tube, and service center companies. Although a relative newcomer to the U.S. steel industry, Severstal Columbus has already earned an excellent reputation for product quality and outstanding customer service.  For additional information on Severstal Columbus, click here or visit Severstal Columbus.

Severstal Sparrows Point, LLC
Located in Baltimore County, Md., Severstal Sparrows Point has been a leader in producing and finishing steel since 1889 and was part of Bethlehem Steel for more than 75 years.  Acquired by OAO Severstal in May 2008, the fully integrated plant has the advantage of a deep water port with direct ocean access and proximity to a number of major U.S. highways and railways.  It is the only integrated producer of flat rolled steel on the U.S. east coast and is a major North American supplier of tin mill products.  It operates “L” blast furnace, the third largest in the United States, and one of the most modern cold mills in North America, commissioned in 2000. Its cold mill and coating lines make Severstal Sparrows Point a favorite among customers in the agricultural, automotive, container, furniture, metal construction and service center industries. Severstal Warren. Inc.
Previously known as WCI Steel, Inc., Severstal Warren has an outstanding reputation for custom steels including high carbon and alloy flat rolled products at its fully integrated and finishing operations in Warren, Ohio. It has consistently ranked at the top of its peer group for on-time delivery and overall customer satisfaction.  Severstal Warren also provides a wide range of custom steels including high carbon and alloy grades developed for a particular application. The installation of a new walking beam furnace at the hot mill has greatly improved quality and throughput while lowering costs.  Severstal Warren is a leading supplier to strip converters, steel service centers, automakers and the construction industry. The operation, founded in the early 1900s as Trumbull Steel, was acquired by OAO Severstal in July 2008. For additional information on Severstal Warren, click here.

Severstal Wheeling, Inc.
With operations in both West Virginia and Ohio, Severstal Wheeling is both a fully integrated steel operation as well as an electric arc furnace plant, giving the division unparalleled flexibility in its operations and product offerings. Steelmaking is concentrated at the division’s Mingo Junction, Ohio, operation with coke provided by Mountain State Carbon, which also supplies coke to other Severstal North America facilities.  Severstal Wheeling’s light-flat-rolled sheet products play a leading role in the tubing, pipe, container, appliance, automotive parts, construction and agricultural markets. The operations of Severstal Wheeling, which for many years comprised the Wheeling – Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, were purchased from Esmark in August 2008.
